Departure

I was thinking about the signage we see in airports and made these for my project. Instead of the symbol of an airplane which is used to indicate the word departure, I used the letter E. The other image is based on the departure board and the font used.

Have Your Passports Ready

Made this up in Illustrator and Photoshop. I took photos of the family's passports and arranged them into the letter E. The file size was huge and my laptop crashed a couple of times but I got there in the end. I think this is a good image for Emigration, tonnes of passports piled on top of one another.

E for Emigration

This is one of my ideas that I did up in illustrator. It shows a tool board with the tools missing or gone to indicate the many tradesmen (tradespeople) that have had to emigrate in order to find work. The top pic should not have some of the tool silhouettes greyed out, I don't know how this happened. Fixed

Sketches

Here are some of my sketch sheets for the illustration brief. Some are literal interpretations of the word "trimmed" and others are created using the scamper method, combining two or more images.

Chip Kidd

I watched this last year and Chip Kidd is quite a character. I love his design for the book cover he talks about in the Tedtalk film, it is one of the typography pieces I chose as an example of work I like.

From three concept ideas one was chosen, this will be the illustrative piece for my final assessment. I have a week to complete it and I am working on it at the moment. Here is what I've created so far.
